NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL BAND
SUMMER BAND INFORMATION
I am thrilled to be your new Band Director and can’t wait to meet each of you! My #1 goal this summer is to encourage as many of you as possible to show up to the first day of Band Camp in July!! If you are a new student, or entering your senior year, I hope that you (students and parents!) will be involved in the Newton High School Marching Band. Newton has a rich history of success and I am excited to get started to be prepared for the 2019 season.
I’m sure that you have many questions about the Band program under the direction of your new Band Director. For returning students, I will work tirelessly to ensure that you have your best year in band yet! For new students, I will strive to make your transition to the high school band experience as easy as possible. Please take a few minutes to look at the following important items as a starting point for your participation in the Newton Band!
Sectional Band Camp - July 23-26 from 9am – 2pm (see breakdown below), and Full Band Camp Aug. 5 - 8 from 3:30-6:30 PM. This is a fun way for all students to get introduced the musical and physical demands and requirements of the marching band activity. All marching band students should plan to attend, bring their instrument-(school owned instruments are in the band hall), dress in workout attire, and wear athletic shoes (no flip-flops or sandals please!!). Please contact the band office if you know of an unavoidable conflict.
July 23 & July 24 9am – 2 pm (lunch provided) All drum line
July 25 & July 26 9am – 2pm (lunch provided) Band members (no drum line)
August 5-8 3:30 – 6:30pm Full band and percussion
Coming Soon! - The Band Webpage I am working on creating a webpage for the Newton Band Program. It will be packed with information designed specifically to help keep students and parents up to date with all of the many Band activities, post announcements and schedules, and answer questions. Stay tuned for more information!
I want your Band experience (students AND parents) to be as positive and rewarding as possible. Taking a few minutes to get informed and stay current with everything that happens in the Band will make your participation in the Newton High School Band one of the highlights of your High School experience!
Excited to get started,
Carolyn Herrington, Director of Bands
