My name is Laurel Kenebrew White. I attended school in this wonderful town of Newton. I graduated from Newton High School in 1979. Through many obstacles and diversions, I found my way back to a childhood dream. I had worked in the school system in different capacities earlier and decided to pursue my dream to teach. I wanted to give back to the children of my community. Yes, this is a small town but I want the youth to never doubt that they can fulfill their dreams. I am a graduate of Lamar University after returning 30 years later. I consider children to be the gateway to the future and need to be nurtured and molded into responsible young men and women. My desire as a teacher is to help my students realize that through learning they can enhance their life in a positive way. I want to help all my students believe in themselves and through that belief, take on the challenges of life and go forward. Making the transition from 5th to 6th grade can be challenging from some, I want to be there to help my students along the way. While my students are transitioning this year I want to instill in them the “I can” mentality. Math is a challenging subject but instilling in them that they are capable is my desire. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to teach your child. This will be a formidable year but I know that it will also be a rewarding year. I am excited about reaching young minds and helping them to enjoy embracing math along the way. Each student is unique and I enjoy finding ways for them to enjoy coming to school and learning as much as I do. Thank you for lending me your child and it going to be a phenomenal year.
