Rules and Procedures

Fourth Grade Classroom Rules

 

  1. Be prepared for class.

  2. Follow all directions the first time.

  3. Talk at appropriate times.

  4. Be respectful to other students and to all adults.

  5. Class disruptions will not be tolerated.

  6. All classwork completed by the assigned due date.

  7. Misuse of chromebook

  8. Sleeping in class


 

Consequences

    

If your child breaks a rule, he/she will receive a verbal warning from the teacher.  One mark will be given for each rule broken thereafter.  Your child starts with 100 conduct points at the beginning of each six weeks.  

 

-1 point - conduct mark 

-2 points - lunch detention 

-5 points - ISS per day (each additional day)

-10 points -  office referral only (plus consequence) 1 day ISS

  

Students will have the opportunity to earn positive points when it is evident that the student has self-corrected or regulated the behavior


 

Newton Elementary Tardy Policy 

For each 6 week period 

The tardy bell will ring at 7:50.

1st Tardy- Teacher gives warning 

2nd Tardy-Teacher gives warning 

3rd Tardy-Teacher calls parent and gives lunch detention 

4th Tardy- Office Referral - A.P. schedules detention/Sat. School 

5th Tardy-In school suspension (one day) 

6th Tardy-In school suspension (two days) 

7th Tardy-Out of school suspension (1 day) 

Field Trips

 

Students who have a conduct grade below 70 for any six weeks prior to the field trip are not eligible to attend a field trip. 


 

Field Days 

 

Students who have a conduct grade below 70 for any six weeks prior to field day may not be eligible to participate in field day. 

 

Grading Policy

 

The following grading scales shall be used throughout the District:

 

Academic Grades

A 100–90

B 89–80

C 79–70

F 69–0               

 

The District shall use the following percentages grouped by appropriate grade level in the computation of academic grades with the exception of prekindergarten and kindergarten students, who shall receive a skills-based report card that will show object times mastered during the school year:

 






 

Retesting

 

When the reteaching cycle has been completed, the teacher shall retest the student. The student shall be required to retake a test. The two grades shall be averaged, and the new grade shall not exceed 70.  Six-week tests and semester exams shall be exempt as they are retests of material that has already been tested.  Interim assessments shall be retested and will count as an additional test grade during the grading period it is scheduled. When a student receives a zero due to academic dishonesty or refusal to take a test, the teacher shall not be required to retest.

 

Parent Portal

 

We update grades in the Parent Portal Weekly.  If you do not know what this is, please email your teacher or call the school and ask for information.  In the Parent Portal you can check your child's grades as often as you would like and can stay up to date with their progress.  

 

Graded Papers 

 

We will send graded papers home in a Purple Folder as needed.  Please review these papers with your child and sign the folder and the papers.

Math Homework

 

Math homework will be given every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday night.  Students are required to complete homework and return to school the next day.  Homework should be completed fairly easily and should not take any more than 30 minutes.  If your child is struggling with a question or a few questions please make a note next the problem(s).  I will be looking for effort on the homework and will not accept BLANK homework. Students will have consequences if homework is not returned with some effort given.  Homework will be combined for a  daily grade each week.

You will receive a more detailed note about the Math homework and the expectations that are required. 

 

1st offense - no recess (1 conduct point)

2nd offense -lunch detention (3 conduct points) (1 pt for no HW and 2 pts for Lunch Detention)

3rd offense - lunch detention (3 conduct points) (1 pt for no HW and 2 pts for Lunch Detention)

4th offense - office referral



 

ELAR Homework

 

Reading homework will be given every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday night. Students are required to complete homework and return to school the next day. Homework should be completed fairly easily and should not take any more than 30 minutes. A one-page fluency page will be sent home. I ask that you time your child as they read the entire passage, write down how long it takes them to complete the passage, and sign it.

You will receive a more detailed note about the Fluency homework and the expectations that are required.

AR Test

 

Students are required to take an AR test.  They will be used for a daily grade each six weeks.  Students will be rewarded if they meet their AR goal.


 

Transportation Changes

 

Students will NOT be allowed to make any transportation changes without a signed and dated note from parents/guardians or a phone call to the office before 2:30 pm.

Superintendent’s Award – All A’s for the entire year

A Honor Roll 

A/B Honor Roll

Highest Average - All subjects 

Perfect Conduct – 100 conduct grade for the entire year

Super Conduct – 95 – 99 conduct grade for the entire year

Top 3 AR Point Holders in the homeroom class

Top 3 AR Point Holders in the 4th Grade

AR Goal met each 6 weeks

Reflex Award (100% fluency) - Math only

IXL Awards - All subjects



 

***District Policies

  • parents will not be allowed to bring lunches to students or have anything delivered to the campus

  • students should bring a clear twist bottle filled with water only
